About the Event
It’s reported that embodied carbon will be responsible for nearly half of total new construction emissions between now and 2050. The building and construction sector must begin to reduce the carbon emissions of its materials and products to create a better building future.
To successfully reduce embodied carbon emissions that cannot be decreased over time, the industry needs to set embodied carbon performance benchmarks and select low-carbon materials to create zero-carbon, resilient, healthy built spaces. Building Transparency’s innovative open-source Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) tool is here to help. The EC3 tool enables simple visualization of a project’s potential and realized embodied carbon impacts, making it easy to see baselines and set reduction targets.
During this session, Stacy Smedley, Executive Director at Building Transparency, will highlight the importance of reducing embodied carbon and how it plays a role in net-zero building goals, as well as best practices for reducing emissions. A building owner will also join and speak to how EC3 is being utilized to achieve positive impacts.
